the child involvement tool kit

The idea behind the tool kit is that you, as an architect, urban planner or designer, should be able to put together your own child involvement process, with inspiration from our methods.

The tool kit bank contains methods we have developed ourselves within Växtvärket and Gatulabba, but also methods we have learnt from others and adapted. Examples of methods that are not originally our own are Mental Maps, The Brick and Idea → Action. These are methods we have been inspired by, tested and further developed to work better in the context of child involvement and urban development.

Some of the methods can be used on their own, but to get the most meaningful result, the methods should be combined. We also advocate setting aside enough time to involve children so that you can meet with them on a regular basis. This not only allows for a good relationship, but also creates the conditions for the children to really get involved in the project and to have enough time to develop their ideas.

Do you feel that you would need some form of support for your child involvement process? This could be anything from a single lecture or workshop to facilitating an entire design process. Get in touch with us and we will put together a plan together!

Methods for different age groups

There is a big difference between working with pre-schoolers and teenagers. Find out more about customising the approach and process for different age groups.

Different stages of the design process

Gatulabba’s design process consists of three parts. It starts with Pre-study, then Vision and Concept and ends with Real Scale. Read more about the different parts here.
